How to Disable Google Voice Dialer on DROID RAZR Series

How to Disable Google Voice Dialer

After, the Android 4.1.2 Jellybean update, you may have noticed a new “Google Now” tool bar popping up on your smartphone screen.  With this change, the normal “Voice Actions” that you have gotten to know and love have been replaced with Google Voice actions.  So, if you find yourself saying, “Oh my original Voice Actions, where art though?” and miss seeing this screen:

Then, this post is for you.  Yes you.

The reason I decided to write this post, is because I have been hearing a lot of people complaining about Google’s Voice dialer mainly from users of Motorola Series’ phones (RAZR, RAZR MAXX, RAZR MAXX HD, RAZR M).  Many times, it gets the name wrong, doesn’t recognize what you are saying, doesn’t ask for confirmation before placing a call, and then winds up calling the wrong person.  A lot of people have asked me, “How can I get the original voice actions back that came with the phone before this latest OS update?”  So in response, I played around with the phone a tad and have come up with this TEMPORARY solution.  I say temporary, because this “fix” will also disable other voice functions on your device in other apps.

1.  Go to Settings.

2.  Go to Apps or Application Manager.  Then scroll over to ALL apps.

3.  Find Google Search and Disable it.

After performing these steps, your original voice actions should be restored.  Do keep in mind that you may have issues with certain apps, for example Google Navigation, when trying to use the google voice search with it.  So, you will have to weigh what is more important to you if you run into this issue and decide what you are willing to give up in order to have your old tried and true voice actions back.  I am hoping that there will be an update to Google Voice dialer released soon that will address the glitches associated with it.  Also, if you decide to re-enable Google Voice dialer, you can follow the same pathing as in the steps above, except this time when under the ALL Apps section, disabled apps will appear at the bottom of the list and not in alphabetical order.  Simply find Google Search and Enable it.
