How To Factory Reset Windows Phone 8X By HTC

No fluff today folks…just a cut and dry “factory reset” post for all of those Windows phone people out there.  This may be a snoozer.  My apologies, but it’s been a rather long and arduous day.

PREFERRED METHOD

  1. From the START screen, swipe left to display the APPLICATIONS list OR from the start screen, you can also select the RIGHT ARROW (located in the lower right hand corner).
  2. Choose SETTINGS.
  3. Choose ABOUT.
  4. Select RESET YOUR PHONE.
  5. Select YES and allow about 1 minute for the phone to finish erasing itself.
  6. Go through with the initial activation and setup once completed.

If you are unable to get to the above settings on the phone then continue reading.

  1. Make sure that the device is POWERED OFF.  If need be, press and hold the power button, and then drag the window to the bottom of the display to power off. Once the “goodbye” message appears, allow up to 15 seconds for the device to completely power off.
  2. Press the POWER button to turn the device back on.
  3. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN key.
  4. When an EXCLAMATION MARK (!) appears on the display, press the following keys in the following order:
  • (1) VOLUME UP
  • (2) VOLUME DOWN
  • (3) POWER
  • (4) VOLUME DOWN

The device will now start the reset process.  Please allow a couple of minutes for it to complete.

      Hi Ngis,

Your phone is pretty much “bricked.” You can fix it. Google the gold card method. I don’t have any posts on that but it’s easy to find on the web.

      Hi Sarah,

I have actually run into this same problem. Unfortunately, your phone is bricked (something not good with the software).
It will need to be reflashed. Just look up how to reflash (insert phone name here) software. If you are unsure how to do this you can also contact the manufacturer or your device and they can help you. Basically you need to reinstall the operating system. Goodluck!

      Hi Shaikh,

I know this reply may be a tad tardy, but did you find a fix to your issue? For those still following this thread, you may want to try another battery . If it is truly stuck in a boot loop, short of re-flashing the software (if it’s not a hardware issue), sometimes a replacement phone is the only option.

My phone’s screen stays completely black! 😦 The three buttons on the bottom will light up, it will charge, it will respond by vibrating to things like forced shutdowns, charging, and possibly messages (not fully sure of that one though). So I know it’s alive and working, but the screen stays black no matter what! I’m really worried, any ideas? I have the Windows HTC 8X on Verizon.

      Hi JL,

Sorry that I am just responding now to your problem, but I am wondering if you had a fix to your problem…
